Starting the new year by...starting?

(I know, I know. It’s already a month into the new year but give me credit for at least starting alright?)

Having just read an article titled Claude Code Won’t Fix Your Life, it felt like the author had looked across the room at me, eyebrow raised, as if to say “when are you going to start all those things you say you want to do this year.” And well, I guess this answer is now; right now.

Look, I get it, life gets in the way. There’s only so much space in our minds for everything we’re supposed to be handling day to day (and that’s not to mention that absolute choas of the global state of affairs). Sleep, stretch, eat, work, eat, exercise, eat, journal, meditate, vitamins, socialize? I guess I should clean the bathroom quickly too actually. Oh and don’t forget to take the garbage out. When am I to fit in thinking about the future? Maybe while I’m getting that chip in my windscreen fixed. Ah gotta call Mum too! #LoveBeingAnAdult

But alas, ‘tis the year of whimsey and optimism (self-proclaimed) and thus here I am, tap tap tapping away at the keyboard, one day at a time building the new habits I wish to look back on with pride as I close out this year. The past couple of years might have felt more like life was happening at me, rather than life happening with me, but 2026 I wish to steer not necessarily with both hands like I stand at the wheel of a ship crashing through waves of a storm, but rather more like riding a horse, guiding the direction with the gentle flick of reins, face turned up to the sun, revelling in the sounds of nature calming the soul. As I said, ‘tis the year of whimsey. Off to a pretty great start I’d say!
